Speaking With Confidence.
“There are always three speeches, for every one you actually gave. The one you practiced, the one you gave, and the one you wish you gave.”
– Dale Carnegie
There could be many reasons why you’ve found us, but it’s probably safe to say that you have an interest in improving your ability to speak in public.
The most important thing you need to know right now is that we can help you do that in a supportive, relaxed and fun environment. We are part of the Association of Speakers Clubs so you can be sure that our learning curriculum is second to none.
Members of Sheffield Speakers Club each have the common aim of improving as public speakers, yet come from a variety of backgrounds, ages and professions. They may also have different reasons for wanting to be better speakers. Some need to make presentations as part of their job, or be members of other groups where they have to get up and speak, while others may want to be better prepared for something more personal, like a wedding speech.
“All the great speakers were bad speakers at first.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Public speaking regularly appears at or near the top of lists of people’s greatest fears. So, if you find the thought of speaking in public daunting, you’re not alone. Even our most experienced speakers – some of whom have been active for more than twenty years – remember their first awkward attempts.
We won’t pretend it’s easy, but every time you get up to speak at a Sheffield Speakers Club meeting, you will receive encouragement and support. And we know from experience that, with that support, your confidence will grow.
